BASS

Peter's compositions mostly have sharply defined basslines that he prefers to hear with the sound of the string bass - the double bass.

Among the small number of double-bass players in his country, none had the chance to experience the jazz pizzicato technique required for the deep expression that this instrument provides in today's music. This limitation has encouraged him to learn this instrument himself so as to gain the insight of a bass player, and to use its sound on his recordings.

"The low register is of least attention among the Middle Eastern instruments with the exception of some percussion. Maybe it's because of its richness in the harmonics unfavorable to the microtonal scales and temperaments. Some luthiers have worked to build relatives for some of the stringed instruments in Iran, like the Bass Târ or the Bass Qazhak, but these still function as doublers to their superior octave instruments. I believe that the native music may benefit from the sound of the bass viol."
